tyrion lannister.
There's gold in the dark, in the darkest part. Dig into the dirt to go back to the start. Treasure is treasure 'cause it's hard to find; dig into your body, dive into your mind. Breaking my habits on the backs of ghosts, finding the feelings that move me the most. Give me a reason, a hand to hold. Go into the dark to look for the gold.

appearance.
voice.
With an accent common to the lords and ladies of the Westerlands, Tyrion has a full, deep voice that is both gentle and firm. His tone is often biting, cutting, and sarcastic, especially amongst family or those he feels are deserving of it, but it can be tender and comforting to those who have earned it.
style.
Tyrion always dresses well. It’s a point of pride really, and with his stature, it costs a lot to have things made as they must all be made to his exact measurements which aren’t exactly common. In his youth, he often wore gold and red, and he does have a fondness for them, but in more recent years, he’s taken to wearing darker, more subdued colours. He still wears some of his rings, all gold of course, but he isn’t flaunting wealth these days as he used to.
etc.
With bright, expressive blue eyes and warm, golden curls, there are few who would not see the Lannister in him. That is, if they can see past his height. He has a few odd scars from some of the battles he’s taken part in (‘taken part’ being excessively generous on some counts) and a few from odd accidents when a bit too drunk.

personality.
Born a lion amidst lions, the first lesson Tyrion ever learned was the value of strength and power. What he lacked in swordsmanship or conventional beauty, he made up for with wit, charm, and intelligence, honing his love of reading into a weapon he could wield. His allies and his enemies can all agree that Tyrion is a cunning, brilliant man, who can outwit almost all that he comes across. His quick thinking serves both himself and any he uses it for, able to think creatively and on his feet, and it’s helped him get out of more than a few difficult situations.

Logical and rational, Tyrion puts his trust in things that he can touch or see, not necessarily believing things by story alone. He tends to be more practical in that way, in stark contrast to the way he used to be as a child, when he readily wanted to believe in the wonders of the world. As he’s grown up, he’s become much more jaded, seeing the world as harsh and cruel, and to survive it, he has to put stock in things that are real, not dreams.

His keen eye and observant nature allows him to read people much better than most would think. His youth was formed by being able to read the moods of his family to avoid their retaliation and their ire, and his many, many years of practice and allowed him to hone his craft. His talent in this regard also helps him guard his own emotions, making him a much better liar. As he’s said, he enjoys the game of King’s Landing, and his place is amongst the bad people within it, outplaying them right to the last.

Because he understands, or believes he understands, the way of the world, he is not particularly trusting, choosing his allies carefully and even with them, holding most of his cards incredibly close to his chest. There are few who have ever slipped between the cracks in his armour, and with each betrayal, those cracks become smaller and smaller, and fewer and fewer people can find their way to his heart.

Tyrion is a master of hiding his insecurities behind jokes, and witty lines, stories, lies, and sarcasm, and he wears all of it like the thick skin he’s developed over the years so that he can protect himself. Living his life always prodded by cruel words and sidelong glances, Tyrion has suffered for the lack of real, true love and he longs for it deeply. At the same time, after being hurt the ways he has been, Tyrion also fears opening himself up again only to be cut down again, and he has been resistant to allowing himself to let people in. He is not a particularly gracious man, either, and tends not to forgive any who slight him. He may be loyal but he is fierce if crossed, and he can be just as vicious and his fangs just as sharp and ruthless.

While Tyrion is brave, willing to put his neck out for the greater good, even running into battle, he is far from foolhardy and would rather avoid a fight than participate in it. And he can be selfish at times, and he was raised with enough privilege to expect it, but he will, more often than not, do the right thing, even if it might not be in his best interest. He is, for better or worse, a good and honourable man, though he will absolutely deny the accusation.

abilities.
well-read.
It’s no secret that Tyrion consumes books like a drunkard does wine. Because of it, he knows a great deal about a lot of things, and he never restricted his reading to just the fanciful or the exotic. Tyrion knew from a young age that his greatest weapon would always be his mind, so he honed it like a swordsman with a blade and made it sharper, neater, more precise than any sword could ever be. And Tyrion has never stopped reading.
languages.
Though he initially only ever spoke the Common Tongue, Tyrion, from all his years of reading, has learned how to translate plenty of languages and he has an ear for them. In more recent times, he’s bolstered his understanding of High Valyrian to be able to speak it with much more confidence than he had as a boy and continues to perfect his pronunciation and accent.
hand of the queen.
Tyrion’s patience and level-headedness making him a good advisor and negotiator, allowing him to provide counsel and guide the hand and the chess pieces with the goal of not losing more life than is necessary. He’s able to see the bigger picture, is a decent strategist, a creative thinker, and is never shy to share his opinion, even when he should be.
spymaster.
With all his knowledge and his quick wit, and growing up in the lion’s den as he did, Tyrion has learned how to play the game and survive. He is very good at gathering information, and just as good at using it to his advantage. Tyrion is also good at making connections with facts and with people, and uses that talent to build networks that support him and the people he defends and stands for.

headcanons.
bibliophile.
Tyrion took to reading young because it was his only way of seeing the world. Locked up inside the high walls of Casterly Rock, hated by his family, his father determined to keep him hidden away, Tyrion turned to the library to learn about anything and everything, of lands past the edges of his rooms, the castle, even the Seven Kingdoms. He read, day and night, burning his fingertips on candle wicks until he could barely turn the pages, and he learned histories, languages, tales, he studied dragons and art and medicine and engineering and war, and he dreamed of being more than the stunted, hidden son within Casterly Rock.
blood of the dragon.
Very unbeknownst to him (but suspected by Tywin), Tyrion is the son of Joanna Lannister and Aerys II Targaryen. It was no secret that Aerys lusted after Tywin’s wife, and he did have her, just the once and the result of that union was Tyrion. What this means is that Tyrion does have the blood of the dragon in his veins, and possesses all the peculiarities that come with it, including a certain longing and fear of being alone that he could never quite satisfy, and while Tyrion denies it now, he has dreamed of dragons every night since he was a boy.
bonding.
In a moment that was so significant and yet subtle enough, Tyrion bonded with the golden dragon Viserion the day he went down to see them alone. Since then, Tyrion has noticed the dragon seemed much more interested in nudging him when he's around them, and he's found he feels oddly content in the shadow of the beast. For all his study of dragons in his young, and for all his desire to have one, he has been steadily missing all the signs that a bond was formed.

backstory.
Tyrion's entrance to this world was marked by death, and he was born with blood on his hands. It was not his fault that his mother died giving birth to him, but it was a guilt he bore anyway. His father never quite forgave him for it, and his sister was filled with hatred for him at the loss of her mother, and she never let him forget that it was his doing. With the exception of his older brother Jaime, Casterly Rock was a cold, inhospitable place, where love was conditional and never given without strings. His father cared for his upbringing only insomuch as he was a Lannister and Tywin would not suffer any more 'humiliation' as he put it. So deference was given to him when it suited his father, and he had a decent enough relationship with his brother, and all the fine things he could hope for, and all the books he could ever want.

Still, Tyrion wanted more.

Perhaps that was greedy, but he wanted a companion who saw more than the lion and gold of his house, more than the shape of his body. He thought he found it once, with Tysha, only to discover the truth of that infatuation was built on a lie. All his life, he continued to drown his pain in wine and books and sharp words, and for a time, it helped. But the world was to change, soon, and in fire and blood.
